Fancy Nancy at age 8..she's the one on the right. Not sure if we were going to school or ready to hunt Easter eggs??! Notice the Oldsmobile in background...my Daddy's pride and joy. It was a beautiful emerald green. Whoa baby!!
Fancy Nancy…she got it in 2!!! First answer was a “cistren pump” then corrected it to “cistern or well hand pump”…right on both answers. Now, Miz FN must tell me how she came up with that?!!
Daughter-in-law gave me this years ago when she couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it. It was her grandfather’s cistern hand pump. I’d like to turn it into a fountain, but so far, I haven’t been able to slow any of the guys down long enough to give me advice on exactly how to do that!
Inside there were/are (they kept the innards of it) little metal cups that attached to the wheel powered by turning the handle you see on the outside. These pumps could be anchored down to metal or stone base for stability. Click on this link to see another cistern pump…not the same brand but close in its structure and is located in the same area of my/our cistern pumps origin.
So FN gets the jam! Thanks to everyone who posted a possible ID…we covered a wide range of utilities for this particular “thing”!!!! And thanks to DiL for “loaning” this to me…one day, you’ll get it back!!
PS I think the Olds in the pic is a 1950 model? Anyone know for sure?!!

WooHoo…Can’t wait for that homemade jam! I googled antique Boss (the key) items…went to images (one of my fav things to use)…and there it was….another person had one and was asking what it was. Only took a few minutes and so easy. Maybe I shouldn’t win,….NOT!
Did we wear dresses to hunt Easter eggs??? May have been a spring school day, but bet it was Easter morn and our moms were out taking pictures before Church of our lovely Easter frocks they had made.
Note: I remember the green Olds….bet Daddy would remember the year. Will ask him tonight when I call him. Know you wish you still had that car!
ummmmm…Excited about my jam! Thanks!
Well, when I talked with Daddy tonight, he couldn’t remember the year model of the Olds.
I’m surprised….thouight he would. If he could see the pic he could probably tell you. Wish he would learn to use a computer…he would LOVE it. Try googling images of a ’50 Olds….bet you find the answer!
I did a hurried search this AM and found a 50 olds but the pic was small and I couldn’t tell a lot from it. Sunday I’ll have time to research more. I hope. Maybe. The wedding will be over with by then, surely I can catch a breather???
Well, I didn’t do a test run for the Boss at Google…my mistake. I just did one on Yahoo and virtually NOTHING came up. I googled it this am early and thar she be! Bigger than life. Almost exactly the same one. I had never seen one of these until DiL gave it to me and I had to ask…uhh, cool but what is it? She and son just knew I’d love it sitting around amongst the flowers!!!
Love your dresses, girls!
Wow, do those pics bring back memories of Elizabeth Drive!
You can bet there heavily starched can-cans under those dresses too! Along with the heavily permed (thank you Toni!) hair. I’m thinking I have some pics of a chubby little blonde baby girl from the neighborhood too….:You were such a cute baby!!
Did not recognize the cistern hand pump, but did recognize the two styling eight-year olds! Seems like yesterday…or maybe day before yesterday.
Or just a loooong time ago!! I’ll bet I can dig up some fascinating pics of you too! And you should see us in our cowboy rig of Jr. High era.
