Prairie Fire to the east, 5 years ago. I took the picture from our driveway and if you click on the picture to enlarge it, you’ll see 6 horsemen backed by smoke.
The day pictured above was windy. It was March 2009 or 08 and dry and windy. The fire at this point was about 2 miles away, if I remember right. Scary doesn’t touch it.
All of our boys and Big Boss were out on tractors in the middle of this chaos trying to disc up ground ahead of the fire in an attempt to stop it. It was headed straight for the farm and house and eventually, the town. I think there were fire departments from 6 different counties fighting this monster. It was nothing compared to the ones that hit Robert Lee, Texas in 2011 last year. That was devastation at its worst.
Wow scary is right. I hope you don’t have that experience again. You’ve had your fair share.

B, if it isn’t fires, it’s tornadoes. And if it’s not tornadoes, it’s blizzards. And if it’s not blizzards, it’s 110 degree heat w/a 40 MPH wind.

The cowboys look like the horsemen of the Apocalypse. Wonderful image!

LOL, Prue. Your’e right! Big Boss is 3 grandchildren behind on the Horsemen. He put those up on the hill so we could see them every time we look to the east and be reminded to pray for them. You wouldn’t believe how many people drive out here just to see the cowboys on the hill. Glad you stopped by.

hug a firefighter: yes, esp because s/he is often a volunteer and risks his life for nothing more than love of his fellowperson. (both bro and SIL are volunteer firefighters)

Both of them? Wow! I need to get my Robert Lee friends over here. Do they have some stories to tell! about last spring’s fires.
