“I WANT CANDY!”

“And….CHOCOLATE!!!!!”

OK.  So you get candy.  And chocolate.  I considered hollowing out the middle of the cake and pouring Reece’s Pieces inside it. If I could’ve found a giant chocolate Reece’s lollipop, that would’ve been the crowning glory.

candy cake, Reece's cake

It looks a bit Hallooweenish, but they don’t make rainbow-colored Reece’s pieces.  Or maybe they do and I’m typically behind on trends?!  But I kinda like it….the cake, not the being behind thing.

The cake is a basic chocolate cake…take your pick on a recipe from about a billion.  I used three 8″ cake pans.  As  soon as they came out of the oven, I poked holes and poured hot fudge topping over and let it all cool.

Then I stirred up a recipe of my peanut butter/hazelnut filling and spread that over the 2 layers of cake, topped off with the last layer.

Next was the chocolate buttercream, which was lathered on the sides and top of the 3 layers of stacked cake. Yummm.

While the cake cooled in the fridge, I opened up a can of BOUGHT frosting!!!  Hang on…I heated it in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then dripped the hot runny frosting over the edges of the cooled cake and the top fo the cake.  So now, the chocolate cake is two shades of chocolate.

I had a sack of Reeces’s Mini Cups in the fridge and unwrapped a bunch to throw on the top of the cake.  That took more time than planned for!  Handfulls of Reeces’s Pieces were sprinkled amongst the mini cups in a very artistic fashion and one was placed at the end of each chocolate “drip” for emphasis, rounded off with a border of Reece’s Pieces placed around the bottom of the cake and smushed in a bit.

There you have it.  No idea how it will all taste.  But I have an idea.  Chocolatey and sweet.  And yes, I had leftover candy. #wrapperseverywhere #chocolatemustache

His mom is going to pick it up later, then take a piece of the cake out to the wheat field where the birthday boy is working today.  Thankfully, it’s not 100 degrees out today…just a very humid 94.  Maybe it won’t melt during the transfer.  No guarantees from the Kitchen of Meemaw.

Oh my goodness, Debbie! Just looking at that cake makes me drool…and gain weight. Chocolate and peanut butter! It doesn’t get better than that! The cake looks like what Mom would call an “ooey-gooey” cake, her favorite! Can I order one?

Ditto! I’d like to try to duplicate the Hot Chocolate in a Cup dessert we found in a DC restaurant. Sort of a messy brownie with peanut butter in the middle, then vanilla ice cream and huge dollop of whipped cream. Oh. My.
