Not a new soap opera but man, does it describe today!
The Wedding was this past weekend and although I’m not a drinking woman, I feel like I just came off a cheap drunk, as my Daddy would say! 🙂 Time to kick back!!
Everything went off beautifully. In the cake department, the cakes didn’t fall, the flowers didn’t break, I finished on time….but honestly, I had just enough time to jump into my dress, put on some lipstick and roar down Belt St. with Big Boss at the wheel to the church, arriving with 10 minutes to spare!! *pant pant* This is a good thing. Many weddings find me still decorating through the ceremony and praying that the photographer is slow so I can finish everything before the guests start arriving at the reception!! I still have a hard time walking away and not nit-picking every little thing.
But this was my last wedding. So I was on schedule (almost) as I had planned accordingly.
My bride…who is also my niece…had requested dirt/mud. Seriously, she didn’t care what kind of cakes we had because they could be made out of mud and she’d love them. Can’t get much more cooperative than that folks!
So, the plan was several small cakes using several different flavors. I won’t bore you with the details, but it was good plan!
We served 4-5 different flavors at a time so guests had choices!
And Sweet Niece wanted each of the cakes decorated differently, so that meant I got to be creative, using several cake artist’s techniques and designs, then throwing in my own ideas. Almost more than an artsy fartsy person can handle!!!? (Not shown is a chocolate sheet cake…just in case…)
Anyway, in spite of the HIGH HUMIDITY, which never occurred to me to worry about, the entire weekend went well! And of course, I had helping hands all along the way…BB not getting a square meal for weeks…without complaining! SiL and BiL and #2 niece loading and transporting cakes and a boatload of cake decorating supplies…a great hotel with eager to please employees…more friends moving finished cakes around! Grandkids taking care of yard and garden while I was gone
And a grandson now want’s to know if I’ll do his wedding cake! Also a great-niece..who is 8! And a couple of groomsmen from last Saturday’s celebration. Oy vey!
This is…officially…The End.
Now…for Madi’s birthday cake!
The cakes are lovely. I like the fish!

I was surprised at how much I ended up liking that fish! The bride asked for something “fishy” like a tackle box or something. This is what I ended up with. I like him too. And thanks!

As beautiful as the first one I remember from so many years ago! I was surprised not to see any risers though until I read that she wanted different cakes and decorating. That must have been harder and more time consuming than 1 multi-layer cake! However, never say never. Those grands can be pretty convincing and charming–let’s see–10 years are so to get ready for 1st grand’s wedding?

Actually, it’s about 6 or one and half dozen of the other on the time consumption. Thanks and we’ll seeeeee!

I love that you approve dear old friend!! The guests had a hard time deciding…except for the German Chocolate. Those fans were waiting with baited breath. Made me laugh!!

NB., you never cease to amaze me! What stunning cakes – it was an orchestration of summer. Your flowers are beautiful and the quilted icing is so rich. Here in Australia, brides only have one cake which might be multi-layered so yours were a veritable cornucopia. Rest, dear girl, rest and make no cakes now for a little while!

“an orchestration of summer”!!! Spoken like a true wordsmith!! Usually, my brides have one central cake but my niece lives on the edge as I do! 🙂 But no rest as #11 grand has a birthday coming up!! Her mom and I planned it today. And thanks !!

You know what they say…no rest for the wicked. Must have been really REALLY wicked as corn silage harvest began this past week and that means food for 11 guys each day. Made dozens and dozens of cookies yesterday afternoon. Now to get to those APPLES!!! And guess what..a sweet friend sent over apples from her tree last night!!! Noooooooo! But…they’re great pie apples and I don’t have many of those. So guess what I’m doing the rest of the day!! And thank you! it was fun making all those cakes!

I love your idea about the fish. I would like to make it for a colleague’s retirement party. Would it be possible for you to give me any directions, recipes, and guidance. I will appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance.
